As a therapist, I really believe that the relationship between the therapist & client is everything. It’s important to feel comfortable & connected to your therapist! That’s why I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation before we officially start our sessions. Hopefully the information on this page gives you a good preview of who I am. You can also stalk me on my (therapy) Instagram page & get a feel for my therapy style: @therapy.with.emilee.
This is the boring part, but it’s important you know that I am qualified to be your therapist. I received my Master of Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the CACREP-accredited counseling program at the University of North Texas. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (LPC-Associate) in Texas & an Associate Clinical Mental Health Counselor (ACMHC) in Utah under the supervision of Dr. Sarah Carlson, LPC-S, RPT-S, E-RYT 200. I am also a National Certified Counselor (NCC). I have been trained in EMDR, mindfulness & am a Certified Clinical Anxiety Treatment Professional (CCATP).
I absolutely love being a therapist. Before I was a therapist, though, I was first a client (I still am :) I went to therapy for the first time when I was 5 years old. I adored my therapist & looked forward to my time with her so much that I told everyone I wanted to be a psychologist when I grew up. Fast forward to my adult years & she is now one of five special therapists who have provided safe spaces for me during different seasons of my life. What they each gave me—a connecting, nonjudgmental, unconditional relationship—changed my life.
I became a therapist because I want everyone to experience a safe space like the ones each of my therapists gave me. I want everyone to experience the empowerment I felt as I’ve learned about myself & healed. Even though I now sit in the therapist chair, I know from my years on the couch that life is hard & therapy isn’t always fun. Some of my lived experience includes family of origin issues, interpersonal trauma, religious trauma, body image issues, disordered eating, ADHD, depression & anxiety.
One of my good friends once told me, “Emilee, I love you because you are deep AND hilarious.” This resonates with me & I know these are two of my strengths that I carry with me through life & authentically hold in the therapy room. In our time together you’ll experience that depth—I will provide you with valuable insight. You will also experience my humor—there will be tears throughout the therapy process, but there will also be laughter.
I feel very passionate about sharing the information I have gained through my education with everyone! In our time together, I will organically integrate psychoeducation into our sessions (providing relevant evidenced-based information about your mental health). I will also regularly recommend various resources for you to explore in your own time, including books, podcasts, websites, instagram accounts & professional referrals.
I love being relational by exploring & sharing aspects of our experiences of our relationship. I’ll share when I feel connected to you, I’ll apologize when I mess up, I’ll ask you to help me understand your boundaries in our relationship, & I’ll check in to see how you feel when I self-disclose parts of my identity. Hopefully this will allow us to create a safe & authentic space & we’ll learn how you can take aspects of our relationship into other relationships.
I am happiest when I am creating something, spending time in nature, or exploring new places. I love hiking, rollerblading, biking, playing pickleball with my partner, embroidering, interior designing, eating ice cream, solving crosswords, traveling to visit friends & going on walks with my dog, Potato. I feel most fulfilled when I am spending time with my people: enjoying new experiences together or sharing deeper parts of ourselves with each other. I believe there is nothing more important than human connection :)
